Prada Handbags

There are so many styles of Prada handbags that it can be very hard to discern authentic bags from replicas. However, there are certain things one should look for in general when trying to spot fake Prada handbags.

First, Prada commands high value due to quality materials and craftsmanship. Many different materials are used in Prada bags, but none of them will be cheap. A trip to a local retailer will give you a feel for how a bag should smell and feel. Prada leather is never cheap or plastic-like in appearance or feel. Bags made of tessuto (nylon/microfibre combination) will be smooth and well made- never rough or poor quality. Handling the real deal will give an accurate reference for comparison. And of course, any handbag with poor stitching or craftmanship (inside or out) is a sign of a fake.

Most bags will have a triangular plaque on the exterior with the Prada logo on it and Milano below it. Depending on the year, the plaque can be attached directly to the bag or attached to a triangular patch and then the bag. The markings on the plaque should be slightly raised and it should match the color of the handbag. Some bags will have metal logo letters attached directly to the bag without the triangle or the markings can be embossed in the bag material. Always know the proper exterior markings of the style you wish to purchase.

Also, most authentic handbags will have a rectangular plaque on the interior. Depending on the year, the plaque will have "Prada", "Milano", "Made In Italy" or just "Prada" and "Made In Italy". The font used on the plaques can be a good authenticating marker. Some letters (the R for instance) are very distinct, and are not duplicated well on some fakes.

Prada hardware comes in three colors: Silver, gold and rose gold. The hardware color should be consistent throughout the bag. All hardware should have a clear Prada engraving. Prada zippers can be marked Ipi, lampo, riri, or be unmarked. Some fakes do have proper zippers, so you should not authenticate on this alone.

Make sure that items come with proper authenticity cards and that there are no spelling mistakes. However, beware, counterfeiters can make very convincing cards as well. However, keeping these tips in minding when buying elsewhere can cut down on your chances of ending up with a replica handbag. To return to Handbags-N-Guides homepage click here.
