Tips For Buying Authentic Gucci Handbags

It is becoming harder and harder to distinguish authentic Gucci handbags from the fakes. Unfortunately for lovers of the brand, compared to other designers, there are fewer clear distinguishing factors of authenticity. Fake Gucci purses and handbags are many times so good that one needs an authentic bag for comparison. If that is not an option, check the official website. When buying a bag there are many aspects one should look at and compare in an attempt to verify authenticity.

First, if it is a monogrammed bag, look at the G’s. Many times fakes will have G’s that look like lowercase e’s. Now this is somewhat subjective as the G’s on an authentic bag could be said to look somewhat like e’s. Again, it a matter of comparison. Also, look for the G’s to be clear and defined. Fakes can have fatter G’s with a “bled out” appearance. The spacing between each G should be consistent. Look at the closest points of each set of G’s- the beginning of the letter (where you would start if you were to write it) and where it curves sharply or finishes. There should be clear and consistent spaces between these points. On some fakes these points are inconsistent, closer or even touching. Naturally, you want to avoid any incorrect monogramming such as the Goach bags where the G’s look like the Coach C. For a good comparison of authentic and fake Gucci monogramming click here.

Another telltale sign of replica Gucci handbags is an incorrect logo or logo font. Authentic Gucci bags use a very specific font and sometimes counterfeiters botch it. Some copies are very good but can be detected under close scrutiny and comparison. Things to look out for are incorrect font sizes and letter spacing (in relation to one another and the entire tag) and misspellings. For instance, on the interior tag under the Gucci logo is “made in italy” with a lowercase i. Sometimes fakes will have a capital I. Many of these differences can only be seen with a comparison to an authentic bag.

Look at the colors on any potential purchase. Some fakes will have less vibrant, or even faded colors, particularly with the green and red webbing or lining. Some poor replicas can be detected by their faded look immediately. However, some bags are only slightly off. This goes for the hardware as well. Some hardware is off-color or obviously cheap.

Look at the quality of materials. Gucci only uses quality leather, fabric and hardware in their products. Look for bags that have replaced quality materials with poorer ones, such as leather with vinyl. These are easily avoidable with a little research into a particular style. Many fakes may have good materials. These can sometimes be detected because they are stiffer or zippers do not function as smoothly as on an authentic bag; the overall look and feel can be off. To notice these differences one must have handled an authentic bag. If you do not have one in your possession, a trip to the closest Gucci store or authorized dealer is well worth it. There you can get a feel for how authentic Gucci bags feel to avoid those hard to spot “almost perfect” counterfeits. Also, look at the hardware as you want to avoid any distressed or chipped metal.

Authenticity cards are faked as well. Some fake controllato cards are green. For more pictures and information on fake and authentic Gucci handbags click here.

Always look at the overall construction of the bag. You will not find any faulty construction, bad stitching or loose threads on an authentic Gucci handbag. And as always, use your good judgment as it is never a sure thing purchasing from anywhere but Gucci or an authorized dealer. For a Gucci biography click here.
